I heart Jo Sharp!

So, I spent Saturday with one of my good crafting' buddies OCC and finally realised why I was having a problem with the Bendigo Mills 8ply cotton.

IT IS NOT 8 PLY PEOPLE!

It is in fact slightly bigger than 4 ply, but essentially should only be used in patterns for 4ply cotton yarn. I know this because I compared it to the Panda Regal 4ply cotton that I use for Crocheting and it was THE SAME SIZE! Is it a conspiracy?? I don't know, but the lesson is, don't buy anything from a bargain bin at a Craft fair. You have been warned!

The other reason I know that it is not 8ply is because today my beeooottiful Jo Sharp DK Cotton yarn turned up! It is the most luscious yarn I have seen, that is since my Lorna's Laces order turned up!! :)
And here it is, Jo Sharp DK Cotton in Orchid, yum! I am going to knit the Beaded Cami from Black Dog knits. Cant wait to get started!

Further updates on my progress will of course be posted soon! (Along with photos of my work in progress(es)!). :)

Wow. That's really good to know. Would you consider contacting Bendigo about it? I'd be interested to know their response.

Also good to know cos I was about to order some for an 8ply project. I love their 4ply cotton though. I've used it successfully many times.

And that Jo Sharp cotton is stunning!!! Am very envious.

I think ply and weight are different Shaz? ie, 8 ply is not necessarily always DK weight. Hypothetically you could have a 4 ply, bulky weight yarn. Apparently this is why gauge is so important...However I may be delusional (it's possible I dreamt that). Lovely colour though.

Good point BP. I did some knitting to 8ply patterns and it was just very open and loose. I think it is probably closer to a 6ply, if there is such a thing!I have found a use for it though, and it looks great. I will post pics soon.

Bells, I really should contact bendigo, lots of bloggers use the yarn and like using it, so I did think it was just me. I was also wondering if perhaps the yarn I bought was miss labelled and that is why it was in the bargain bin.
Live and Learn I guess!

Ha Ha that's funny Shaz! At least you know why it all seemed so stange now. You should trust your instincts.

You have a handy knack for picking beautiflu wool in lovely colours. Clever girl.

Good luck with the pattern. Let me know if you get stuck!

BTW: If you're planning to bead it drop me a line and I'll send you the beads FREE! I have some that will be perfect for that gorgeous yarn.
